Election Notes
So ..So seems to be my favourite beginning to a astatement or sentence..i’ll have to do something about that.
Anyway –hmm there’s another one
I wasn’t going to comment on the election this week. I was just gonna let it go: no comment. I use this rule with a lot of people. I’m actually quite political but I’ve learned to not let it govern my mind. There are people in my life , good friends , people at church, that I disagree with, and since what brings us together is more than our political points of view I choose to "Low" (pronounced Lau like in allow) that talk. Let it go. We don’t talk about it. A couple of friends from church and I even have a standing agreement after one debate that was endless. However looking at the television and seeing newspapers makes me feel like I have to say something. Especially since the outcome of this is based on "moral values"
First let me say I’m not happy about the election. I am not a conservative I am a liberal. But that doesn’t exactly mean I am a democrat though my views are more inline with theirs. I am also a Christian, in fact I should have said this first. I am a Christian and my faith is important to me. It’s been an integral part of my life from birth. And I have wrestled and given a lot of thought throughout my life to my relationship with God. So it rankles me when this election and conservatives make it seem like there are no liberal Christians. That to be a liberal is not to believe in God.
It also bothers me that people feel that Bush has been given a mandate by God. He also believes this mandate and with the support of 51% of the people it’s going to get scary. All because of" moral issues". Gay marriage being the main thing. I actually had an argument of sorts with a good friend of mine as to whether John Kerry believes in Gay Marriage. Which I believe he has stated that he doesn’t and my friend believes that no matter what he says he does. If e does or doesn’t from my point of view I don’t know if it’s our place to legislate this. All states have the power to determine their marriage laws and I don’t think any state except perhaps Vermont would ratify gay marriage. Also even if they do why is it my business. Jesus says very plainly not to judge. This is rule three in my 3 rule walk with God. 1) Love God with all my heart and all my heart. 2) Love my neighbor as myself. 3) Judge not lest ye be judged. God judges and we all live with our own hypocrisies. If homosexuality is wrong then in the afterlife God will deal with it. If a Christian’s job is to bring more people to Christ then again it has to be by our behavior. By the love we show. Jesus met people where they were. He extended a hand of love and preached tolerance. I am not saying don’t stand up for things that are wrong. I definitely believe society has gotten out of hand on many issues. But many problems lie in the state of the family and homosexuality has been around with or without more a stable family life in the world.
The relationship with God is a completely subjective one. Each person has to deal with their own one on one relationship with God. So the fact that so many Christians ignored the lies we have been told about the war, the state of the economy, the presidents disregard for the common man in favor of big business because our presidents prays bothers me. Because we all know our walk is not perfect. As hard as we work its easy o be taken off track. To think we are in sync with God and instead be really following our own selfish wants. And for me nothing the president has done gives me comfort to think that this isn’t the case.
Now I’ll say Carl Rove is an evil genius and also the Democratic Party has been remiss in appealing to people on the moral front. On how moral and Christian it is to want the best every man. On how lying to the people is a moral issue. 80+ % of Americans believe in God. If 50% of the population voted democrat then there are obviously people who have the same issues. So I urge liberal Christians/ God fearing people to speak up and be heard. These are heady days ahead of us and though my argument isn’t as complete as I would like I think you get the sense I am trying to convey.
My name is Kotoko, I am a liberal Christian and I approve this message.
Carrots!
p.s. The bible also states beware of false prophets!
